Crime Alert Berks County is an organization of interested citizens, businesses, service organizations, corporations and social clubs, which formed to help our police departments in Berks County, Pennsylvania, to obtain credible leads that will result in arrests of criminals and solving crimes. This organization's inception was on August 1, 1998. Numerous crimes have been solved and arrests have been made as a result of tips e-mailed and phoned into the tip line. WANTED FOR HOMICIDE Miguel Angel Torres On Monday 9/12/05 at about 4:05pm, Miguel Torres waited for his wife Barbara Torres to leave work at the Wachovia bank located at 6th & Washington Streets in Reading, PA. As she walked to her vehicle in the bank parking lot located on Reed Street behind the bank, Miguel approached and fired a handgun at her causing her death. Miguel Angel Torres is wanted for homicide and related offenses associated with the shooting death of his wife. Miguel is a Puerto Rican male, 27 years old, 6'1" tall, approximately 200 lbs. On July 5, 2007, at approximately 0435 hrs., a gold Nissan Quest minivan pulled into an emergency pull-off area at mile marker 31 on the north shoulder of Interstate 78 westbound in Windsor Twp., Berks County. A westbound tractor-trailer was in the right lane, when it veered into the pull-off area and side-swiped the stopped van. After impact, the tractor-trailer continued west on I78. Severely injured in the crash was 10 year old Melissa Johnson, who later died of her injuries. A passenger in the Nissan described the striking tractor-trailer as orange with black lettering which read “Roadway”. Mail-in coupons published in the Reading Eagle Newspaper is now another way to remain anonymous and still get information to police, The only thing you have to do is spend 42 cents for a stamp.
